Marilou Chagnaud, Mapping Air
Marilou Chagnaud is an artist whose practice combines printmaking, sculpture, and site-specific installations. Her work revolves around the use of lines, colours and geometrical patterns to investigate spatial perception and movement.
Produced to accompany her final exhibition as Visual Arts in Rural Communities (VARC) artist in residence, Mapping Air documents the titular installation and performance made utilising a hand sewn parachute silk flag to explore the movement of air in the wilds of rural Northumberland.
Diverging from VARC’s established square catalogue format, the publication adopts a 1:3 page size and a flexible underpinning grid layout inspired by the proportions and pattern of the silk. Minimal art direction and generous use of white space afford the photography and text ample breathing space, with a Singer sewn bind of orange thread to elevate the finish.

Signed limited edition, printed and finished in the UK in collaboration with Pressision.
