Northumbria University – Everyday Disruptions Publication - 2014

The Everyday Disruptions Publication is the culmination of an Arts and Humanities Research Council project devised by Professor Ann Light of Northumbria University’s Media and Communications Design faculty. The two phase project brought together community and university research teams from across the UK to explore how the arts-informed methodology of gentle disruption could make for effective community action.

With a cross section of participants including social activists, academics and community leaders, the process for agreeing the aesthetic for the publication was as democratic and inclusive as the project itself. A paired down palette and DIY visual style was employed to echo the zines and home-printed newsletters of grass roots activism. A section of detachable postcards were included to encourage recipients to share the key messages and findings of the project, and the vast online archive cumulated throughout its lifespan.
